Get creative on a Sunday morning while enjoy a delicious beverage to celebrate our Stone and Wood / artisan collab!

In this workshop, participants will decorate a handmade mug... perfect for your favourite beer or whatever tickles your fancy!
Learn the basics of ceramic decorating and work with an array of underglazes and styling. The mug base will be made, ready for you to add handles, a lid, patterns and designs.

Each piece will then be carefully dried before its first firing then clear glazed and fired in the kiln.

So come and get creative!

About the facilitator:

Carys Martin is an accomplished artist and experienced ceramicist, residing in the Redlands area of Queensland, Australia. With a solid background in print design and making, Carys has a unique eye for surface decoration which is evident in her ceramics. Many of her pieces contrast raw clay with shiny, smooth glazes and highly decorated designs combined with negative space.

Working in ceramics since 2008, Carys has honed her skill to create practical, functional everyday art to one-off statement pieces that are now sought after worldwide. Inspiration comes from nature, as well as her childhood in Cumbria, an area stepped in folklore and ritual.

With a mother as an artist, Carys enjoyed a very creative childhood in the village, Banks, not only home to many prominent artists but also the LYC Museum and Art Gallery. With a BA (Hons) Arts Degree, Carys has studied in the UK and America and exhibited in both these countries, as well as Australia. She continues to work in open exhibitions and galleries and is stocked in over forty stores throughout Australia and overseas.

Wanting to share her passion for ceramics, Carys began teaching classes and workshops at her studio in 2020. She now runs fifty workshops a year, as well as weekly pottery classes, and attends several markets and exhibitions. Her main commitment continues to be crafting beautiful, handmade ceramic pieces that are unique and made with love. Her belief is to surround yourself with things that bring joy, have worth, hold meaning, soul and tell a story.

About artisan x Stone and Wood Collab

We are stoked to announce Stone and Wood's support for the local Brisbane art scene with artisan via the @ingrainedfoundation throughout December. $1/100L sold over the bar will go directly towards funding that will provide better access to artists and designers from remote and regional communities; develop opportunities for young people to engage with craft and design; help us to build and support our creative community; and allow artisan to continue to innovate. A huge thank you to Stone and Wood InGrained Foundation for their support.

Skill Level: Beginner to experienced
