Come join Ruby for a fun workshop making wall hanging ceramic vessel using hand building technique of slab-building. We will get to make one medium sized vessel and we will use various underglaze colours and texture tools to finish surface decorating your unique wall vessel.
You will learn the basic process of creating functional ceramics, using the slab roller, work with hard slabs and how to combine underglaze/ texture to create unique look.
The workshop is for both beginner and people with clay experience. The work will be fired in time for Christmas!
About the facilitator:
Ruby Yu-Lu Yeh of Yeh Ceramics is an emerging Taiwanese-Australian ceramic artist based in Meanjin (Brisbane). She utilises both wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques to experiment with clay and develops works that are both sculptural and functional. She is intrigued by the possibilities of using cube to form a sophisticated piece, as well as the organic tone and texture of different clay bodies. A play between rigid forms and spontaneity can be observed in Ruby’s work. She is also a student practitioner of Urasenke Japanese tea ceremony under the guidance of Sensei Tomoko (Soho) White. Ruby has participated in group exhibitions in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. Ruby was a finalist in the competitive National Emerging Art Prize in 2021.
