Would you like to know how to make a concertina book from one sheet of paper?
• Do you need more confidence to create spontaneous mark making?
• Does fear of failure hold you back?
• Would you like your work to feel more free and less ‘tight’?

What’s included in this dynamic workshop:
• Clever ways of folding paper to create a book with no measuring...! And just a couple of simple cuts.
• Highly experimental mark making with ‘natures brushes’ and sticks.
• Demonstrations, warm up exercises, new ways of seeing.
• Printed instruction sheets with notes for participants
• Looking at different ways to apply paint and ink to create random backgrounds and exciting collage materials.
• Discussion and exercises on limited colour palette and materials for exciting results.
• Small group interaction with renowned artist educator Debbie Mackinnon.

Provided by the Gallery: 1 x A2 sheet of 200gsm paper per person (to make the concertina book). Black ink, acrylic paint, various brushes, paper towels, water pots, masking tape, string, scissors, glue sticks, water spray bottles, white disposable plates (for mixing palettes), A3 light weight paper for experiments and collage.

Participants to bring: Sticks, seed pods, feathers – collected found objects to make some ‘nature brushes’. Favourite brushes, if you have any, including one 3cm wide (low quality ok).

Debbie Mackinnon is a contemporary landscape artist based in Sydney. Debbie trained as an illustrator in London and worked in publishing for many years as an art director. Moving to Australia 28 years ago, the light and colours in the landscape inspired her to embrace painting again and now she paints full time and exhibits regularly. Making artist books is a passion, alongside experimental mark making.
Debbie taught drawing and illustration at Billy Blue Design College for 15 years and has taught numerous art workshops in Australia and overseas.
