Blues Piano Night

It’s back! One of the most popular events in the Canberra blues calendar – Blues Piano Night. A week earlier than usual this year on Friday 17 November, Blues Piano Night will once again feature four different players playing solo and together, offering the audience different takes on the many genres of blues piano styles. Our stalwart team of Carolyn “Pinecone” Packer, John Black, Ali Penney and Leo Joseph are signed up to bring you all the blues piano goodness they can muster.

Styles range from Jelly Roll Morton’s Cuban influences from the early 20th Century through to stride piano, the melodic styles of New Orleans piano, and the great crowd favourite, the 10 handed boogie woogie.

Carolyn Packer’s honky-tonk and boogie-woogie style will have you stompin’ your feet. Her robust piano playing and vibrant vocals will get you bouncin’ along.

John Black's prowess on the keys and superb mastery of stride is infamous.

Australia’s queen of the blues Ali Penney and Leo Joseph, both well-known local blues piano players round out the bill.

And you won’t want to miss the grand finale, the 8 handed boogie woogie. Always a crowd favourite.
