The impacts of Domestic, Family Violence and Coercive Control on individuals, children and families starts with having a deeper understanding of trauma-informed practice.
At the centre of your practice is YOU. As a practitioner you have the personal and professional responsibility to develop yourself and remain resilient to the potential impacts of working in a high stress environment. It is only from making a daily commitment to yourself that you can embed strategies that protect yourself from burn out, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma.
We are going to learn about some of these amazingly simple strategies to support you to stay well while you apply new learnings within an ever-changing environment. Once you have grasped these concepts; organisational protocols, policy and procedures can be effectively applied to respond to the safety and well-being of all parties involved.
As a frontline worker responding to the complex needs of individuals, children and families, you are required to be abreast of the evolving legislation as it applies to affirmative and reproductive consent, in addition to coercive control. You will have the opportunity to learn how the 6 primary principles, for trauma informed practice relate to how you will develop effective client support strategies. You will gain a deeper understanding of how apply the principles of Resilience and Recovery, Understanding Trauma and Stress, Compassion and Dependability, Safety and Stability, Collaboration and Empowerment, and lastly Cultural Humility and Responsiveness within your role.
The best practitioners understand that the more they know about themselves, how they respond and react to their environment, the closer they are to truly working as a trauma informed practitioner.
