Chinese lacquer art originated from the primitive period over 8000 years ago and has a long historical tradition and unique artistic beauty. It has always been known for its high craftsmanship, skillful design, and beautiful charm. As an important centre of Chinese lacquer art creation, Fujian has had a tradition of lacquer art production since the Song Dynasty, with a history of over 1000 years. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, "bodiless lacquer ware" created by Shen Shao'an, even pushed Fujian traditional lacquer art to the world stage.
This exhibition focuses on contemporary lacquer painting art in Fujian, showcasing nearly 40 lacquer painting works by young and middle-aged Fujian artists. It not only covers the backbone of Fujian lacquer art, but also includes many new generation lacquer painting artists. The works showcase the contemporary and diverse nature of Fujian lacquer art in terms of modeling language, material language, and colour language, reflecting the skill level and artistic thinking of contemporary Fujian lacquer painters, as well as the beauty of traditional Chinese culture embedded in lacquer art.
