Holly Norman 'Matilda Bay' EP Launch

Drummer, percussionist and songwriter Holly Norman celebrates the launch of her second EP, ‘Matilda Bay’ with an evening of original music at Lyrics’ Underground. The release is a musical coming-of-age for Holly, in which she explores the creative constraint of the duo medium working with a different musical collaborator on each of the EP’s six songs. “Matilda Bay tells the story of my longing to return to Western Australia after becoming a mother during the Melbourne lockdowns, and my eventual homecoming,” says Holly. The record captures Holly’s connection to the land around the Derbarl Yerrigan/Swan River catchment, and her reunion with the river and ocean on Noongar Boodja. The release is demonstrative of Holly’s growth as an artist during her time based on the east coast. The six compositions are stylistically diverse, ranging from folk-pop ballads to instrumental jazz, contemporary tone poems, and electro-pop.

For this special launch event Holly (drums/vocals) will be joined by her quartet: Marc Osborne (saxophone), Hanna Kim (piano) and Nick Abbey (bass) plus special guests to be announced. Support from Danilo Da Paz & Emily Gelineau.
