The first magnificent production of Independent Theatre’s 40th anniversary year – The Corn is Green is a beloved tale of poverty, determination and hope set in a Welsh Mining Town.
Miss Lily Moffat arrives in rural North Wales, determined to teach young local miners to read and write. She then discovers Morgan Evans, a young man of outstanding promise, and does everything in her power to forge him a new future.
A semi autobiography by Emlyn Williams, this play is a testament to the power of education to liberate disadvantaged children.
Since its premiere in 1938 at the Duchess Theatre, London, The Corn is Green has had more than 600 seasons around the globe, produced by some of the world’s leading theatre companies. The original Broadway production at the National Theatre, New York, ran an incredible total of 477 performances.
Legends, Dame Sybil Thorndike, Ethel Barrymore, Bette Davis and Katherine Hepburn have all taken star turns as the visionary Miss Moffat. Now it’s Adelaide’s own, Lyn Wilson, who will shine in this classic role, alongside Eddie Sims as Morgan Evans.
This heartfelt production opens at The Little Theatre on Saturday, 8 April. Tickets are available now. Don’t miss Independent Theatre’s first show of their 40th anniversary season.
