The Metropolitan Orchestra’s third Met Concert of 2023 promises to be an event filled with cherished masterworks along with creative and invigorating new sounds all inspired by new worlds.

Commencing with two Australian works starting with Stephen Lalor’s moving Mima Concert Overture followed by a world-premiere from one of Australia’s powerhouse new composers and well-known contemporary artist, Heather Shannon of the Jezabels. Titled “Strange Roses”, this unique new work will meld the sounds of the synthesizer performed by Shannon, with a full orchestra to showcase how music can constantly evolve to shape a changing new world. Led by Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams, this exceptional performance will come to a dramatic and fitting conclusion with Dvořák’s sumptuous Symphony number 9, which is better known as the New World Symphony. Presented within the beautifully ornate Marrickville Town Hall at the family friendly time of 3:30pm on Sunday August 20th, this event will appeal to all music lovers young and old, whether you are long time lovers of fine music, or new to experiencing the power, vibrance and finesse of a live orchestra. This event, in this venue, will not disappoint.

Supported by the Inner West Council.
