It is difficult to imagine the emotional reaction to the Armistice that marked the conclusion of a disastrous war such as World War I. After World War II, the Australian government agreed to rename Armistice Day to Remembrance Day to commemorate those who suffered in that conflict. The day now honours all Australians engaged in all wars.

Held on November 11 at this historic Cottage, the Friends of ANZAC Cottage will focus this year on the theme of Women in War, exploring the reactions of those who were on the front line, such as the nurses and those waiting at home- the wives and widows.

On this day, the Cottage will be open from 12.30 p.m. with children's activities, a mini-exhibition based on the World War 1 Armistice, guided tours led by a descendant of the original Cottage recipient and the commemorative Field of Remembrance.

The annual Sunset Service will begin at 5.00 p.m., concluding at 6.00 p.m. To explain the timing: whilst the Armistice was signed at 11.00 a.m. in France, it was 6.00 p.m. in Perth.

Entry is free to the Cottage on this day at 38 Kalgoorlie Street, Mount Hawthorn. For more information, please call Anne on 0411445582 or email chapan@highway1.com.au.
