Two Day Workshop Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June 2023

Participants will create a coat that expresses their own intimate story. The coat is based on the shape of the Kimono as the gesture expresses a state of surrender and acceptance, two states of mind/heart crucial for authentic expression. Why a coat? Because a coat is what you put on to protect yourself from cold, rain, snow and sun. They wrap around you, embrace you and make you feel secure. Each participant will express their own story on their coat in a realistic, impressionistic, abstract or symbolic way in a safe, non-judgmental environment. A diverse range of materials will be provided.

Held in conjunction with ‘Earth Coats and Collected Stories’ collaborative exhibition on view from 8 June – 13 July by Jo Williams, Beryl Wood and Katrina Elliot.

Optional: After the workshop, participants have the opportunity to come along and be part of Fashion Show to be held from 1pm Saturday 8 July in conjunction with an Artist Talk.

Jo Williams is a conceptual mixed media artist and writer. In 1990 she graduated from National Art School in Sydney with a Diploma of Art (Fine Art). In February 1991 she was admitted to McKinnon De-tox unit at Roselle Hospital with chronic alcoholism. The combination of her recovery from alcoholism and her inherent need to express herself creatively are parallel lines on which she travels in life. Most of the foundations of Jo's work is autobiographical and comes from a deep well of authenticity. She currently lives on the Fraser Coast and creates and teaches from her studio in Howard: Jo's Art Cave.

Two Day Workshop $180 per person
