Enjoy the holiday season at Yagan Square where Christmas brings the community together to celebrate the spirit of our land, nature, and people.

Nightly from 6pm until January 2, you can visit THE MOODJAR TREE, a 3D captivating 3D anamorphic digital installation in Yagan Square in partnership with the City of Perth’s Rio Tinto Christmas Lights Trail, and Lux Events.

Those not familiar with the “Australian Christmas Tree” or Moodjar Tree and its bright orange blooms at this time of the year have the opportunity to learn about its cultural importance as it lights up each night with the vivid and beautiful original story of the Tree as told by Rose Walley with artworks from the talented artist Biara Martin.  The Moodjar tree holds a deep-rooted connection to the Noongar people as a symbol of cultural heritage, spirituality, and seasonal celebration.

Renowned Noongar singer-songwriter Phil Walley-Stack composes the soundtrack and his voice narrates the journey, along with his daughter, throughout 15 stunning scenes that will present the Moodjar Tree in a way that the eyes have never seen, with cutting-edge 3D visual effects created by Lux Events.

During the season of Birak, the Moodjar tree flames into bright orange flowers, bringing joy to all who witness this majestic display. This native species is central to the culture of the Noongar people, as it’s a living embodiment of their spiritual beliefs and testament to their profound connection with the natural world. It is also a revered teacher, with lessons for us all about living sustainably and in harmony with one another.

While you’re there, enjoy free roaming Christmas entertainers every Friday and Saturday up to Christmas, or grab yourself a giant cotton candy creation from the Sugary Cloud robot vending machines (user pay machine).  For more information and a full schedule of events in Yagan Square, visit yagansquare.com.au or follow on socials @yagansquare.
