An evening of seafaring songs with a modern pop spin!

Following a multi-award-winning debut in 2021, The Shanties Choir are coming to Bairnsdale!
Inspired by the #1 viral trend on TikTok which saw sea shanties catapulted back into popular culture and rocketing up the charts, this vocal ensemble is putting a modern pop spin on these folk classics.

The Sea Shanty Spectacular features original a cappella versions and pop remixes of tunes such as the chart-topping Wellerman, familiar favourites like Drunken Sailor and a diverse range of traditional seafaring songs from Europe, North America, New Zealand and Australia.

With music direction and arrangements by Alex Morris (Shania choir, Geelong Harmony Chorus), and featuring original remixes from Will Hannagan (WILLING), this is sea shanties as you have never heard them before.

So, gather your crew and get ready to shake your pirate booty at this evening of rum-soaked tomfoolery.

The Shanties Choir
Formed as a social group during the 2021 Melbourne lockdowns, The Shanties Choir have fast become an established cult favourite on the Victorian arts festival scene. Their debut digital show for Melbourne Fringe was streamed in eight different countries and won both the Regional Arts Victoria Hybrid Touring Market Ready Award and the Adelaide Fringe SA Tour Ready Award. Since then, they've debuted their full-length live show to sell out audiences at Midsumma Festival and had featured performances at Gaytimes Festival, Fringe Common Rooms and Red Light Confidential. Blending A Capella arrangements with pop backing tracks the group have developed a fun and youthful approach to traditional seafaring songs unlike any other sea shanty ensemble.

'...ten awesome singers, with harmonizing voices, cleverly honed together from isolation. This is a lovely short and very sweet show of Sea Shanties not to be missed.' - Stage Whispers
