Fiona Lee Maynard - Junction - North Side Album Launch at Brunswick Ballroom Matinee Show Saturday 27 April 2024, from 1pm – 4pm.

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE.

According to Jeff Jenkins; “Fiona Lee Maynard and James Lomas are dual protagonists in one of music’s greatest love stories.”

Singer-Songwriter Fiona Lee Maynard and lead guitar playing singer-songwriter husband James Lomas have a three-decade long collaboration history and a special bond with music, but a recent event saw them take their relationship even higher.

Fiona, once described by Jeff as ``one of Melbourne’s greatest rock chicks'' gave her left kidney to husband, James on July 27, 2023.

The formidable Australian female rocker and frontwoman for bands Have A Nice Day and In Vivo explained “James had sudden onset kidney failure in late January 2021 when a rare auto immune condition was triggered out of the blue and destroyed his kidneys in 10 days.

``James was on dialysis for 2 and a half years, waiting for a deceased donor kidney, his condition was deteriorating, and he couldn't perform live music.’’

Things were looking bleak, so he agreed to accept his wife’s loving donation. The Transplant Team at Monash Health expertly guided them through the whole process.

Since his wife’s amazing gift James’ health and quality of life has dramatically improved and they’ve both recovered well from the surgery.

One bonus side effect from their experience is an album of acoustic songs that they worked on together while waiting for their operation. The album is called 'Junction'.

'I wrote the songs while James was in dialysis and James played his guitar parts between dialysis sessions,' said Fiona.

'Writing and recording the album was a great comfort to us during the time when chronic illness and the rigid routine of dialysis occupied most of our attention, I hope the songs will offer comfort to others.'

Since the transplant, they have been able to perform live again.

According to Diz Randall; “I was at their first gig back after their transplant recovery. It was the most uplifting experience to see them back on stage. I called it a resurrection.”

Celebrating their 9 months “kidneyversary”, Fiona and James will launch Fiona Lee Maynard’s new album Junction in a special matinee show at Brunswick Ballroom joined by special guests (Jack Howard, Cal & Tracey McAlpine, Kim Volkman) who performed on the album in the second set.
