A special concert with Grammy-nominee Tenzin Choegyal, one of the world's finest musicians in the Tibetan tradition, also featuring performances by the Bega Valley Male Voice Choir.

From New York’s Carnegie Hall to Sydney’s Opera House, from Womadelaide to Woodford Folk Festival and many places in between, Tenzin has thrilled audiences across Australia and beyond. He’s now looking forward to bringing his unique musical offerings to Moruya in April.

A son of Tibetan nomads, Tenzin feels a particular connection to the music of the wandering people of the high Himalayan plateau and remains dedicated to preserving the cultural traditions of his ancestors.

Tenzin is a master of traditional Tibetan instruments the lingbu (bamboo flute) and dranyen (3-stringed Tibetan lute) but is best known for his extraordinary vocal ability and performance of droklu, the nomadic music of his parents.

An outstanding composer/performer with a great depth of musical knowledge, intuition and inventiveness, he skilfully brings Tibetan music firmly into a contemporary setting, all the while strongly holding the essence of ancient Tibetan wisdom.

Tenzin’s cantering rhythms, soaring vocals and exquisite flute solos have enchanted audiences around the globe.

Through his songs, anecdotes and warm explanations, Tenzin takes audiences on a musical journey which transcends cultural boundaries, even inviting audiences to join in lively singalongs and meditative mantras.

But, while proudly continuing the nomadic lineage which is central to his musical repertoire, Tenzin also embraces opportunities to move away from the traditional and into uncharted territory along with an international cast of collaborators.

His collaborations with artists from all streams of contemporary music include major works for stage and film with Philip Glass and his Grammy-nominated album with Laurie Anderson Songs from the Bardo – a moving interpretation of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. He is also the first Tibetan artist to perform regularly with a string ensemble and continues to break ground with his newest album Yeshi Dolma, the result of a 10+ year collaboration with Camerata - Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.
For Tenzin music is life, no matter where he is. “My music has evolved through my own journey from Tibet to India to Australia and around the world. But wherever I am in the world, my music also connects me to my homeland of Tibet.”

Tenzin’s message is uplifting and his obvious joyfulness is infectious.

Don’t miss this opportunity to join with Tenzin and the Bega Valley Male Voice Choir for an evening of glorious harmonies, song and spoken word, infused with a sound as expansive as the ocean and as majestic as the Himalayas.
