Jackie Bornstein

Jazz vocalists Jackie Bornstein and Jeremy Hopkins unite in song for a special Valentine's evening. Together they share a selection of beautiful and swinging songs of love lost, won and imagined.

In the tradition of great duet partnerships (think Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong singing 'Dream a Little Dream', Astrud and João Gilberto singing 'Girl from Ipanema', Tony Bennett and Diana Krall singing 'Nice work If You Can Get It'), Jackie and Jeremy will share the stage performing well known jazz and bossa nova standards plus a few rarer gems.

Singing in duet as well as solo, Jackie and Jeremy will explore a program that crosses continents with works by Duke Ellington, Charles Trenet, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Peggy Lee, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, María Grever and more.

Also featuring exciting guitar master James Sherlock, rising jazz star Yael Zamir on Flute, esteemed bassist Philip Rex and gifted drummer Ryan Menezes.

Jackie Bornstein
"An enchanting vocalist and captivating storyteller." - Australian Jazz

Jackie is one of Melbourne's most captivating jazz and bossa nova singers, with sold-out shows at the Melbourne Recital Centre, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Paris Cat Jazz Club, Kew Court House and more. Known for her rich tones and ability to get to the heart of a tune, Jackie brings a powerful energy to each performance. Performing regularly with a selection of Australia's finest musicians, Jackie enjoys exploring a broad repertoire that sees her singing in French, Portuguese, Spanish and English. Whether performing a hard swinging bop tune or deeply moving ballad, Jackie enchants audiences with her emotive delivery and beautiful tone.

Trained classically as a child, Jackie went on to study jazz voice at the Victorian College of the Arts. She was awarded a UK Masters scholarship and focused her thesis on the role of the arts/music in conflict resolution. Jackie was recently awarded a City of Melbourne Arts Grant for her project ‘Women in Jazz: An Invitation to Freedom’ which has seen her release an album in December 2022 and develop a book on Australian female improvising artists.

Jeremy Hopkins
Based in Melbourne, Jeremy has worked across the Australian arts landscape, including contemporary music, film and TV, cabaret, circus and the voice-over sector. He is a wordsmith, a comic, a crooner, a beautiful ensemble player, and a deeply creative composer having released his self-titled debut album in September 2023.

When Jeremy synthesises his many talents on stage, one is left with a feeling that there is probably not another person on the planet like Jeremy Hopkins.

Having graduated from Victorian College of the Arts in jazz improvisation in 2006, Jeremy has since become a well-respected freelance performer. He has toured the world with various productions, played and recorded with countless bands and was Music Director at Circus Oz 2018-2020, composing all the music for their live shows.
