4000 Records

4000 Records presents an evening of sideways sounds from the left lower intestines of our lovely li’l corner of Queensland.

We kick off with in-the-moment sonic architects Sherman and Field (2/3 of our beloved Coalfalls) who create “ambient rave” pieces featuring field recordings with synth dalliances through hypnotic rhythms. Followed by the first ever show by new outfit Continuous Hit Music sharing their love of motorik (think Neu!, Kraftwerk and Go-Neko!), then we cap off the night with a sensory excursion thanks to one of Meanjin’s most exciting groups, Plainer.

Plainer began as the songs and ideas of Nick Smethurst (half/cut, Epithets), and is presently a Meanjin-based 6 piece of somewhat unlikely collaborators - James Eyre Walker, Mae McDonald, Imogen Kowalczyk, Katy Bedford and Winter Cyan - brought together by a shared fascination with ambient song craft and the intimate disassembly of the “rock band” form.

@_plainer

Continuous Hit Music is a cosmic rock quintet who overtly worship music released between 1972 and 1974 by German bands, and artists who were obviously influenced by music released between 1972 and 1974 by German bands.
Playing this music live is their idea of fun. If that sounds like your idea of fun too, then they’d love for you to join them at their very first gig, as their cosmic travelling companions. Wir fahren los!

Sherman and Field are explorers of soundscapes, effects-drenched guitar, found/ environmental sound, objects, devices, acoustic/ electronic beats; indeterminate improvised creations, sculpting immersive experiences; psych explorations to hypnotic trans-journeys of sound...most importantly- that very juncture in time and space – the perfect and imperfect, the intended and unintended, and whatever transmits in-between.

This event takes place on Turrbal and Jagera country.
We respectfully acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, recognise sovereignty was never ceded and pay our respects to the elders past and present.
