Rammstein blamed for US school shooting

Berlin metal band Rammstein have been blamed for the latest school shooting in America.

US newspapers and websites are reporting that the persuasive power of music drove 15-year-old Bobby Gladden to begin shooting at his classmates at Perry Hall High School in Baltimore on Tuesday (August 28).

Although there were no fatalities, one boy was injured before a school counsellor apprehended Gladden, an alleged fan of Rammstein. The victim, fellow student Daniel Borowy is currently in hospital being treated for a bullet wound in his back.

Gladden’s parents said this in a statement: "We are horrified. We did not see this coming and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and the victim's family."

On the surface it may seem quite sensationalist to pin an attempted murder in the first degree on an industrialist metal band, but after the state of Colorado (and much of America) blamed Marilyn Manson for the 1999 Columbine high school shooting, Manson told TMN the affects were detrimental to his career, with the FBI even going so far as tapping his phone.

“It had really affected my career… At that point, fifteen years ago or so when everyone wanted to kill me, literally, when I had hundreds of death threats a day - which I’m sure probably didn’t make anyone that was around me feel comfortable - I just had to decide, ‘Would I die for what I do?’,” he told TMN. “That’s not being a martyr, that’s just being decisive and being certain about ‘is this what you believe in?’ Because I had to believe in something.”
