US radio embracing Missy Higgins

US radio is embracing Missy Higgins’ The Ol' Razzle Dazzle, with the album entering the Billboard charts at #83. Her new label Vagrant is working Hello Hello at AAA and HotAC radio, with the track being added to 40 stations already. It’s helped by a quirky video, directed by Kasimir Burgess and shot in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, which features a koala-headed boyfriend.

An interesting aspect about Higgins’ US presence is that almost a quarter of the sales of her last album took place at her shows.

She did a handful of gigs in July – the Los Angeles and New York shows sold out; she appeared on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. She returns to North America for a more extensive run, between August 22 to October 5. Half of these will be with Gotye, at iconic venues as Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver and Radio City Music Hall in NYC (the latter's already sold out). The other shows sees her headlining a three-artist bill (with Butterfly Boucher and Katie Herzig) in 1000-1500 capacity venues such as the Filmore San Francisco and Toronto’s Opera House. When TV shows return next month from summer hiatus, Everyone’s Waiting will be pitched for sync duties.

Higgins’ chart appearance comes as Aussie acts as Kylie Minogue, Havana Brown, Sia and Nervo also make their presence on various Billboard charts.

At home, The Ol' Razzle Dazzle climbs up to #6 this week on the ARIA chart two months after release – a rarity these days. That, as well as the announcement of her tour with Gurrumul and Emma Louise and a memorable set at last weekend’s Splendour In The Grass, should bode well for the album as judging for the ARIA awards starts shortly.
