Van Halen's Aussie tour plans shelved... again

Plans for Van Halen to announce an Australia tour for October/November are scuttled, as guitarist and co-founder Eddie Van Halen has been rushed to hospital for surgery.

Last night the band announced on Facebook: “Eddie Van Halen underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of diverticulitis. No further surgeries are needed and a full recovery is expected within 4 – 6 months. Van Halen's scheduled November 2012 tour of Japan is currently being rescheduled and the band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013."

The Music Network’s resident doctor tells us that diverticulitis occurs when small bulging pouches form inside the lower part of the intestine, usually the colon, and become inflamed due to constipation and straining during bowel movements.

Van Halen were supposed to tour Australia last September for the Soundwave Revolution tour. But they pulled out because, depending on whom you spoke to, they were running late with recording their album, or their well-celebrated in-fighting had flared up again. As a result, the touring festival was cancelled.
