Sculpture By The Sea opens for 2012

The sixteenth annual Sculpture By The Sea has opened today along the coastal walk between Bondi Beach and Tamarama Beach, running from 18 October to 4 November.

Becoming a 2km long temporary sculpture park featuring over 100 sculptures by local and international artists, the annual event is one of the biggest events in - not just Sydney - but the world's public art calendar.

For the first time in its sixteen years, the event will hold free artist talks in Marks Park each Saturday and Sunday. hosted by art commentator Henry Mulholland.

Visitors can recline in the beanbags installed next to the artists’ work, learn about the sculpture and the creative process behind it, all the while interacting directly with the artists for the first time.

Each session will run for 10-20 minutes each day, with approximately four sessions a day on the weekend between 11am and 2pm.

There will also be a Tactile Tours day on Saturday 27 October and a public work, "Ghost Nets" on the weekend of 20 and 21 October.

As ever, Sculpture By The Sea is an entirely free event.
