Weekend Picks: See something old or something new, paint the fridge and bicycles too

Film festival season is upon us! Check out the Iranian Film Festival in Melbourne and Canberra as it starts its Australian tour, the Travelling Film Festival rolling into Mackay and Bundaberg or the WOW Film Festival of shorts in Tasmania. Prefer the classics? Little Women is onstage in Hobart, the Australian Ballet perform Romeo and Juliet in Perth, and the classic rock show Long Way To The Top is putting on the hits in Brisbane. Opera fiends should get to the Hunter Valley to enjoy a wine at Opera In the Vineyards: A Puccini Gala, flower lovers can catch the last weekend of Floriade in Canberra, and those wanting a laugh in Tasmania can soak up the jokes as Jimeoin hits up Hobart, Devonport and Launceston. Get your paintbrushes out and decorate your fridge to celebrate art at the Darwin Fridge Festival and then get into some great eats at the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, jump on your bike for the Sydney Rides Festival, and rest assured that is everything going on in Melbourne as Melbourne Festival kicks off.
