Sound Summit, the annual festival of independent and innovative music, is moving to Sydney from its long-time home of Newcastle.

Sound Summit has traditionally been held in Newcastle as part of the wider-focused This Is Not Art festival. Since separating itself from This Is Not Art in 2011, Sound Summit has established itself as one of the top independent music festivals in the country. The move to Sydney will cement this further, however organisers are citing funding as the main cause of the move, stating it "has forced Sound Summit to rethink its financial sustainability and its position as a festival to be able to continue to provide distinctive, challenging and engaging content."

This year's festival will be held from November 7-10. Co-directors Daniel Goddlieb, Nic Warnock and Liza Harvey are taking call outs for applications from May 21, with details on this to follow shortly.
