Patti Lomax attending Brisbane International Film Festival

The Brisbane International Film Festival is rolling out the red carpet on opening night for Patti Lomax, widow of Eric Lomax who’s best-selling war memoir that was adapted to a film called The Railway Man.

Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth play Patti and Eric’s characters in the film that delves into inspiring notions of heroism, humanity and the love the Lomax couple shared.

Patti Lomax recently attended the World premiere of The Railway Man at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival where she received a heartwarming standing ovation from the audience.

She is, “a powerful woman who shines the spotlight on the notions of reconciliation and restoration,” said BIFF Festival Director, Jennie Hughes.

“As his loving wife, she helped Eric survive the battlefields of his mind years after the war had ended and was an inspiration for the penning of his bestseller memoir so eloquently told in The Railway Man.”

The Railway Man premieres this Wednesday at the Gallery of Modern Art. The film was directed Jonathan Teplitzky and produced by Chris Brown (The Proposition), Andy Paterson (Girl with a Pearl Earring) and Bill Curbishley (Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who.).

Viewers will also get the chance to meet Patti Lomax and the film makers in a special event, “In-Depth with the Filmmakers of The Railway Man” on Thursday November 14 at the State Library of Queensland.

The screenplay of Eric Lomax’s memoir was written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Andy Paterson and appearing alongide star leads Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth are Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, Great Expectations), Stellan Skarsgard (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Thor), Hiroyuki Sanada (Wolverine, The Last Samurai), Sam Reid (Anonymous) and Tanroh Ishida (Gambit).

The Railway Man is part of The Brisbane Film Festival that runs from November 13-24.
