Grammy-nominated rapper Rick Ross is hitting Aussie roads for the first time this September. He will be hyping up the crowd at Perth's Metro City, before heading to the Eatons Hill Hotel in Brisbane and The Forum in Melbourne. The tour culminates at Sydney's Enmore Theatre. After his AU dates, he will be flying to New Zealand for a show at the Logan Campbell Centre in Auckland.
Hailing from Miami, Rick Ross is undoubtedly one of the most influential figures to come out of the noughties. He released his breakthrough single 'Hustlin'', lifted from his debut album 'Port of Miami', in 2006. The track went from a relentless street anthem to a pop culture catch phrase still used today, and earned him a record deal with Def Jam. 'Port of Miami', on the other hand, debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, as did 'Trilla' which came less than two years later.
It was 2010's critically-acclaimed 'Teflon Don' though that sent Ross to international stardom. The album included the names of music giants Jay-Z, CeeLo Green, T.I., Erykah Badu, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, Diddy, Gucci Mane and Drake. Celebrated tracks from 'Teflon Don' include ‘Aston Martin Music (feat. Drake and Chrisette Michelle)’ and ‘B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast) (feat. Styles P)’.
"His studio albums feel like events that demand the ears and opinions of rap fans." - Pitchfork 8/10
"Ross surrounds himself with big-name guests and pours out smart rhymes over sleek, synth-heavy beats." - Rolling Stone
Rick Ross remains one of the most sought-after feature artists in hip-hop. He has elevated tracks like DJ Khaled’s ‘We Takin’ Over’ and Kanye West’s ‘Devil In A New Dress’, collaborated with Skrillex on ‘Purple Lamborghini’ from the Suicide Squad soundtrack, and more recently with Miguel on ‘Criminal’ and Pusha T on ‘Hard Piano’ from his critically-acclaimed new album 'Daytona'.
Currently, Ross is working on his 10th studio album 'Port of Miami 2' which is set to drop this year. Not much is known about the release, except that singles ‘Florida Boy (feat. T-Pain and Kodak Black)’ and ‘Green Gucci Suit (feat. Future)’ are out now.
