Alena Murang is one of the first and few females to play the sape’, a lute instrument belonging to Borneo’s indigenous Dayak Orang Ulu people. Hailing from the Malaysian state of Sarawak, she shares her native songs and stories with audiences across the world.

Performing serene melodies remembered by only a handful of elders from her grandparents’ generation, Alena’s mellifluous voice lends an ethereal dimension to her Kelabit and Kenyah songs that evocatively capture the lyrical essence of tradition with earthy simplicity.
