Gasworks Arts Park is a vibrant arts precinct producing a range of high-quality arts programs, workshops and activities for all ages. Situated in Albert Park, Melbourne, on the site of the former South Melbourne Gas Plant, Gasworks is just three kilometres from the CBD and the precinct houses four hectares of park, two theatres, three gallery spaces, a café, as well as function and workshop spaces.
The Gasworks Theatre is a black box performance space with a flat, sprung floor and a raked seating bank. With the addition of rows on the floor, the standard capacity for most theatre shows is 192. The theatre can also accommodate cabaret-style seating for up to 50 patrons, around 10 tables, situated in front of the seating bank (total audience numbers remain at 192 for this set up). The theatre can fit up to 300 seats for other types of events, such as conferences, that can utilise a reduced stage space.
The Studio Theatre is an intimate performance space with floorboards and flat rows of moveable seating for up to 60 patrons. It has an industrial ambience and is ideal for a variety of uses including workshops, small productions, seminars, demonstrations, dance classes, rehearsals, readings or as a green room in conjunction with theatre hire.
Gasworks Arts Park hosts over 200 performances and 30 visual arts exhibitions each year, as well as monthly farmers markets and many more workshops and community classes.
