Samson and Delilah’s world is small—an isolated community in the Central Australian desert. When tragedy strikes, the teens turn their backs on home, stealing a car in a bid escape their difficult lives.
Lost, alone and homeless in Alice Springs, they discover that life isn’t always fair, but love never judges. Described by the director, Warwick Thornton, as a “survival love story”, Samson and Delilah is both beautiful and heartbreaking, and resonates with truth.

In a rare instance of agreement, both Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton awarded the film 5 stars on At The Movies, and it was the only film to receive that rating from them in 2009. The film won the Cannes Film Festival Camera d'Or award in 2009 for best first feature film.

The film will be introduced and given context by Peter Rainey, an SMSA member and cinema enthusiast, who returns to an earlier passion for films as a Program Director for a Queensland Cinema Group, now that he has retired after 40 years in the education profession.

This is a free event and everyone is welcome. No bookings required.
