Father's Day Service

On Father’s Day, Sunday, 1st September, when we come together to celebrate marvellous dads, Toowoomba Garden of Remembrance will help Toowoomba and The Darling Downs families who have lost father figures honour and connect with loved ones through a special event.

All area residents are invited to commemorate those who have proceeded by brightening the Garden with a gift of blue vase for flowers to place on a father’s grave. There will then be a time to reflect and share stories as guests gather for a traditional a sausage sizzle hosted by the West Toowoomba Lions Club.

Elizabeth Gillam Area Manager at Toowoomba says "In our role as carers for the Toowoomba and The Darling Downs communities, we think it’s important that everyone has a place to remember the amazing dads who are no longer with us in body, but are ever-present in spirit and memory, and very much loved and missed by those who are here to remember them."

The sausage sizzle and blue vase memorial were created by Toowoomba to help people celebrate the lives of all paternal figures, while having the opportunity to connect with people who are also going through a similar experience. Held in collaboration with West Toowoomba Lions Club and Toowoomba Flower Market, flowers can be purchased on-site on the day, with donations being made to the Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation.

“In today’s society where we all lead busy lives, we hope to provide a time of joy for our Toowoomba neighbours, and a place where families can unite to reminisce about the good times,” concludes Elizabeth.
