The annual Parrtjima – A Festival in Light event returns to Alice Springs Desert Park in 2019.

Now in its fourth year, the festival has become a much-anticipated celebration of the Aboriginal art of Central Australia. Parrtjima is the only Aboriginal light festival of its kind and proudly showcases the oldest continuous culture on earth through the newest technology.

Coinciding with the UN International Year of Indigenous Languages, the festival will operate under the theme of ‘Language Expressions’, shining a light on the beauty and complexities of Central Australia’s vast network of Indigenous languages. Rhoda Roberts AO will return to curate the festival for a third year.

Continuously evolving, Parrtjima 2019 will introduce four new light installations, while festival favourites like Grounded and the lighting effects on the MacDonnell Ranges will return and showcase new artworks. Parrtjima will also once again light up Alice Springs Todd Mall as well as offering visitors a chance to delve deeper into the festival’s theme and engage in a series of talks and workshops.
