Our experience of the Australian landscape, from The Great Dividing Ranges, Cradle Mountain in Tasmania to the High Plains of Omeo and Kosciusko, Sokquon Tran captures our memories informed by the transience of light at play as shadows cross memetic vistas.
The creation of a phenomenological discourse through the broader monochromatic palette, imbues a landscape with a poetic stylization towards the intangible of misty mornings and the onset of night fall, awaking an improvised glory that exists with or without our presence.
Indeed a painter in the Romantic tradition, Tran’s academic accomplishments and longevity in the studio belie a contemplation that passionately explores the potential of a reconciled world, or one of deep contemplation through self, time, spirituality, refuge and reflection.
Sokquon Tran was born in Kampot Cambodia, during the regime of Pol Pot and on leaving Cambodia, studied at Liverpool Tafe and completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at UNSW. As an artist whose studio practice and exhibitions include painting and drawing, his highly collected artwork is held in the public collection at Parliament House in NSW, Qantas Private Collection Sydney International Airport and Crown Casino Melbourne just to name a few. Naturally, an extensive collection of work is held across Australia and Internationally in private collections by those inspired in life by the art created by Sokquon Tran.
