The Art House

Australia’s finest young musicians play a program of Classical music from the Northern Hemisphere.

This program features foot-tapping Danish folk music for string quartet, a light-hearted serenade by Danish composer Carl Nielsen and Eric Ewazen’s mesmerising piece for solo marimba which evokes the shimmering beauty of the northern lights.

Hovhaness’ fantasies for brass are lyrical and ethereal, while Tansman’s miniatures are a perfect foil—dramatic and vivacious. A cool north wind blows through Britten’s early work for oboe and strings, while Berwald’s melodious septet brings a touch of fireside warmth to the conclusion of the concert.

Now in its 18th year, the Sydney Symphony Fellowship is recognised as one of the world’s leading orchestral training programs, providing exceptional young musicians with an intensive year-long program of mentoring, performances, workshops and the experience of musical collaboration that defines the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Program listing:

Ewazen Northern Lights
Trad. arr. Danish String Quartet Highlights from Wood Works – Nordic Folk Tunes
