The Augmented Trumpet by Elliot Hughes

A special presentation of the first compositions for Elliott Hughes' Augmented Trumpet, featuring surround sound and surround(!) projections.

In 2018 six Melbourne composers wrote new works for trumpet & electronics, designed to feature the homebuilt valve sensor that makes this instrument 'augmented'. The sensor allows the electronics to synchronise with the acoustic sound through the movement of the valves, opening up new possibilities for each composer to explore.

Live visuals projected around the space will accompany each piece, along with eight speakers surrounding the audience to create an immersive multi-sensory experience. Before this performance, an installation piece will be filling the space—five projectors and eight speakers in action!
