Umberto Clerici, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Cello, has created this fascinating program, which asks, in his words: "What can be considered an ‘Italian Sound’? Does it come from the precious old Italian string instruments or from the long tradition of opera and bel canto that made Italian music famous around the world?" In exploring this question, Clerici will look at three centuries of music, taking in a jewel of the Italian baroque by Vivaldi, the string quartet Verdi composed while he was waiting for Aida rehearsals to begin in Naples, music by Philip Glass disciple Ezio Bosso and much more besides. How will it sound? Bellissimo!
