Symphonies don’t come any more ‘progressive’ than Beethoven’s ‘Fifth’. It is hard to imagine hearing it for the first time, but in the revolutionary transition from minor to major at the start of the finale, when the blazing brass leap into view like a Delacroix stallion, it must have been like the world crashed into the concert hall. Suddenly music was about more than just music and could never be the same again.

To kick off, the five superb young Melbourne musicians who make up Arcadia Winds (Monash Artists in Residence) will perform new Australian works.

Featuring:
Tianyi Lu: Conductor

Program:
Natalie Williams: Animalia
Elizabeth Younan: Shoreditch Grind
Ian Whitney: Five Scenes
