Sydney restaurant Song Kitchen and Bar is offering diners a taste of life from the 19th and early 20th centuries with a three-course menu based on recipes donated by women suffragettes.
Executive chef Liz Mason will host the dinner on Saturday, March 7 in celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day (March 8) using original recipes from 1886 and 1915 suffragette cookbooks.
To celebrate the original recipe-makers and their fight for women’s rights, Ms Mason has created a tongue-and-cheek menu describing courses as ‘Mrs Impey’s ‘up-rice-ing’ of cutlets’ and ‘Mrs Washburn’s ‘speach up for your rights’ peach sherbert’.
Following in the footsteps of her predecessors, Ms Mason will make each element of the menu by hand, from the butter and cream to the freshly baked dinner rolls. Four matching wines made by a line-up of female winemakers will be offered on the night.
Song Kitchen supports YWCA Australia programs and services for women, young women & girls in Australia. Good food, for a good cause.
