Serial collaborator and director of Counterpilot, Nathan Sibthorpe will facilitate this half-day contemporary performance making workshop that will focus on devising processes to activate audiences. Moving beyond simple notions of audience participation, this workshop will focus on how the role of an audience can be prioritised in the DNA of performance-making processes.

Theatre is a space of shared realities – an audience coming together to fuse a moment of their lives with ours. In works like Truthmachine (Horizon Festival 2019) and I’ve Been Meaning to Ask You (Horizon Festival 2021), real circumstances are exploited for extraordinary audience experiences.

Workshop participants will be led through a series of hands-on activities that explore how contemporary performance can exploit real circumstances to activate audiences with moments of heightened reality.
