Canberra Blues Society proudly presents Julian James and The Moonshine State with special guest support Ali and Dave Duo.

Julian James has been kicking around Melbourne’s famous live music scene since he was a teenager, and he’s landed on a sound that draws from both a humming Louisiana back-porch swamp, and a roadhouse juke joint. Julian has put in some big miles and two well-received albums to get to where he is right now, on the eve of launching his new collection of tunes ‘Devil Town’.

‘Devil Town’ sees Julian flexing his Americana muscles and the tracks were produced by leading Aussie producer Matt Fell who’s led the production charge for many of Australia’s top artists - from Shane Nicholson to Slim Dusty, Sara Storer to Fanny Lumsden.

The Devil Town album is a gumbo of old-timey country, modern productions, Psychedelic humour, laconic delivery, and is definitely something you’d expect to hear when the baddie walks into the saloon…

Says Julian of the album

“I’ve always been drawn to music of bygone days, to me that stuff seems to fit in with my lifestyle better than music made on a computer. The chance to record this record with Matt Fell and some of my favourite musicians of all time has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. I hope that other people can hear the fun we had making it when they hit play.”

To escape the current challenges of being a performing artist in Victoria, Julian has moved into his bus and continues to seek out an open bar, a shady spot and a friendly ear.

For his Canberra show Julian will be joined by local Canberran legends Matt Nightingale on bass, Mitch Preston on drums and Jacque Bradley on fiddle.

Special Guest Support: Ali and Dave Duo
