The thrilling debut concert of Melbourne Strings presents a program featuring Pēteris Vasks Violin Concerto Distant Light and the premiere of Ballade for Strings and Voices by Sandra Aleksejeva-Birze, specially written for this event. Melbourne Strings is a new ensemble initiative formed by the city’s most vibrant emerging and accomplished string players. The concert is curated by Latvian violinist Sophia Kirsanova as part of her research project exploring the distinctive voice of Latvia and is proudly supported by the City of Melbourne and the University of Melbourne.
