Remembering “The High Priestess of Soul” and “The Goddess of Piano” of the 20th Century. NINA SIMONE.

Her life and her music brought to the stage by SA’s own Jazz in Cheek Quartet. Nina was more than just a singer playing piano. Her passion was classical music. Her livelihood was covering popular songs, jazz, blues, R&B and old folk & gospel tunes all in her own unique interpretation. She was not afraid to use her music and lyrics to challenge hearts and change minds. Eventually the two became one and with writing her own songs underpinned by her life and struggles and the political influence and agendas of the time, the world gave us the remarkable Nina Simone.

Born in 1933 in Tryon, North Carolina, her mother taught her how to play piano when she was 4 years old. By the early 50’s Nina was singing in jazz clubs in New York City leaving an indelible mark on the world with her unique style. Mesmerizing audiences with her interpretations of popular songs like ‘I Put a Spell on You’ & ‘Lilac Wine’. She would bring her people together with gospel and folk tunes like ‘Sinnerman’ and ‘I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free’ and put her feelings and observations in her own compositions like ‘Four Women’ and ‘Do I Move You.’ All which feature in this inspiring show along with her most memorable song…‘My Baby Just Cares for Me’ and leave you ‘Feelin’ Good’!

See the Show. Hear the Stories. Feel the Music.
