Songs from Mermaid Avenue perform a playfully irreverent – yet reverential – tribute to the iconic 1998 collaboration between Billy Bragg and Wilco, which set new music to previously unheard lyrics by seminal folk icon Woody Guthrie. Mermaid Avenue startlingly revealed the joker, lover, boozer and horndog behind the facade of Guthrie’s populist, fascist-bashing folkie persona, and spawned timeless classics ‘Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key’ and ‘California Stars’.
