February 12, 1916 was a landmark day in Mount Hawthorn as it was on this day, that ANZAC Cottage was built in one day! The Friends of ANZAC Cottage invite you to celebrate this day on February 12, 2023 with them by coming along to a ‘patriotic’picnic, as 4000 people did 107 years ago. Bring your picnic blankets, your fold up chairs and that basket full of goodies and join in as we honour those volunteers who 107 years ago donated their money, their skills, their labour and their commitment to build this iconic Cottage.
Open from 4pm to 5pm, we offer stories about the Cottage’s origins, a family treasure hunt, and some picnic fun. Maybe you can find your ancestor amongst the volunteer photos taken 107 years ago. And of course there will be a celebratory sweet for all to enjoy.
It is free to all (but donations are always welcome). ANZAC Cottage is located at 38 Kalgoorlie Street, Mount Hawthorn. For more information, please call Anne on 0411445582 or email friendsofanzaccottage@gmail.com
