On Friday 1 December, St Kilda Bowlo will host a triple rock bill featuring The Johnnys, Burn in Hell and Murrays Bay Country Club, bringing together a lineup that will again shake the foundations of this historic venue.

Irreverent rock elders, The Johnnys, fuse the fun of punk rock with the three-minute pop sensibilities of Hank Williams and are credited as cowpunk pioneers. They first brought their blend of country and punk to Australian audiences with their inaugural gig at Palms Disco (an infamous basement venue in Sydney’s Oxford St) in November 1982, with a riotous showcase full of dusty hay bales and wild cowboys and cowgals.

Boasting a long list of national and international headline tours as well as supports for acts such as Iggy Pop, Neil Young, The Cramps and The Gun Club, just to name a few, The Johnnys will once again bring their chaotic brand of cowpunk to St Kilda.

Joining them on this lineup once again are Burn in Hell and Murrays Bay Country Club, featuring progeny of The Johnnys Billy Pommer Jr, making it a pommerfest not to be missed.

Melbourne-based Burn in Hell have been described as “a bunch of pirate punks and carny undertakers playing in a 1930s Berlin bar, from Chopin to chaos”. They have released six albums and two EPs and have a huge following across Australia and Europe.

Murrays Bay Country Club are newer to the local scene drawing inspiration from that early irreverent punk ethos and adding their own deep down country spin. Forming in the garage of The Kingdom (their own backyard studio), they’ve recently released their first album “How Much Beef Could Electric Creek Beef If Electric Creek Could Creek Beef” (you’ll have to ask them direct on that one…).

If it’s been a while since you’ve experienced a high-energy, full-on rock gig with great performances, fabulous music and serious audience participation, don’t miss this one!
