The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) is set to host its first Open Day in four years – giving local schools, businesses and the community an opportunity to meet Olympians, Paralympians and World Champion athletes, learn from high-performance sports experts, and tour through its world-class sports facility.
To be held on Wednesday 20 September (from 10.00am - 2.00pm) at its newly refurbished headquarters at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park, the VIS Open Day provides 'behind the scenes' access into the inner workings of one of Australia's elite sporting institutes.
As part of the VIS Open Day, attendees will have the opportunity to:
Meet some of Australia’s Olympic, Paralympic and World Champion athletes, including Liz Watson, Alistair Donohoe and Kelly Cartwright.
Attend interactive demonstrations with VIS experts, such as cooking sessions with specialist sports dietitians to learn how to prepare a recovery/fuelling meal.
Participate in basic performance testing in the gym, such as a WattBike test, jump testing on force plates, Nordboard testing to measure eccentric and isometric hamstring strength, and sprint profiling using biomechanics, which allows participants to compare their results with some of Victoria’s fastest athletes.
Learn about or try a new sport with several VIS partners, such as Hockey Victoria, Netball Victoria and Table Tennis Victoria.
The VIS Open Day is free to attend, and participants are encouraged to register via www.vis.org.au or contact marketing@vis.org.au for more information.
