Gasworks Circus Showcase (formerly Showdown) is an unparalleled professional development opportunity for circus and physical theatre artists. Adored by audiences since 2012, this display of immense skill is made possible by the daring and talent of independent Australian artists.
Four acts shortlisted by an industry panel perform 15 minute excerpts of new works-in-development, and development awards will help them to take their works to new heights.

The Gasworks Circus Showcase 2024 finalists are:

Act 1. Dawn/Dusk (Nexus Entertainment): Circus brilliance unfolds in Dawn/Dusk: a blend of human strength and grace through the solar cycle. Featuring Karina Schiller (NICA, Statera Circus), Will Anton (NICA, 7 Fingers), and Nina Robertson (NICA, Gravity Dolls), Dawn/Dusk is full of the spectacular acrobatics and honest storytelling that Australian contemporary circus is known for.

Act 2. the CONVERSATION (The Discourse Collective): Come watch, as siblings James and Ellen Bartlett converse in depth about their upbringing, shared experiences, and adult lives. By cleverly integrating live speech with object manipulation and juggling, they playfully animate their memories and anecdotes. This piece merges different artistic forms to explore themes of family dynamics, identity, and connection in a captivating manner, as the siblings invite the audience to join them in ‘the CONVERSATION’.

Act 3. Resonance (3 Silly Geese): Resonance is an exploration into the relationship between artist, musician and audience. Performed by Tim Simpson, Jake Kenner and Dean Moran, this fun, feel good show transports you to the intimate atmosphere of a Friday Night Circus Special at a Jazz Bar. Packed with a healthy dose of acrobatics, music and laughs, Resonance will leave you with your hearts full.

Act 4. CIRCTANGO (Marco Paoletti and roya the destroya): Tango meets circus and Australia meets Argentina. Accompanied by their double bassist, circus performers Marco Paoletti and roya the destroya blend circus and tango with live music in a rare and engaging experience that will keep the audience curious for more. When two different realities collide: the elegance of dance with dynamic circus movements, these worlds fuse together to create a unique connection.
