Enjoy a Saturday night of great Australian Jazz as the Chris Cody Quartet kicks off the first event in the Jazz Haus concert series at Tuggeranong Arts Centre

Internationally recognised jazz pianist and composer Chris Cody has thrilled audiences at festivals and venues around the world from New York to Zanzibar, working with jazz greats Roy Hargrove, Herb Geller, Rhoda Scott, Lisa Simone, Brice Wassy, and Miles Davis alumni Rick Margitza along the way.

In a career spanning 30 plus years, Cody has headlined numerous international festivals including Paris Quartiers d’Eté London, Rome, Brussels Jazz Marathon, Stockholm, Munich, Marciac, Geneva, Ascona, Derry, Dar Es Salaam and Algiers and a vast array of concert venues throughout the USA, Europe, Africa and Australasia, from the Village Gate NYC to the Munich Staatsoper.

His upcoming gig at Tuggeranong Arts Centre on Saturday 24 February will see Cody return to play for Canberra audiences for the first time. He will be joined by Max Alduca on double bass, Mike Avgenicos on Sax and James Waples on drums. The quartet will perform a collection of favourites from Cody’s huge jazz catalogue, and compositions from his recently released album, “The Outsider.”

Featuring exciting new music infused with infectious African and Middle Eastern grooves and motifs, Cody’s highly anticipated album spans multiple genres, including blues, gospel and jazz, film noir ballads and wild swing. Inspired by the work of French writer and philosopher Albert Camus, Codys’ many years living in Paris, and the COVID experience, the album features compositions exploring themes of identity and purpose. Like Camus, Chris wanted the response to be one of courage, action, and joy, and intended for the music to reflect this. Regarding it as his finest musical project to date, Cody describes it as a joyous life-affirming response to adversity, music of beauty and hope.
