Artist Spotlight: The BossHoss

Berlin band The BossHoss may have made their name giving Top 40 singles a country and western overhaul and watching covers of tracks like Toxic and Hey Ya! storm up the German charts, but this month the showbusinesmen were in the country touring with Soundwave Festival. Eventfinda caught up with the seven-piece to talk tour life and English idioms.

What are some of your highlights from the Soundwave festival so far?
Just having the chance to see and hang out with bands of the calibre of EODM, Filter, Clutch, Volbeat - gives us one hell of a kick.

It' s real honour to be sharing the stage with the Walking papers. Duff McKagan is a fucking legend!

You’re from the home of some of the globe’s biggest rock festivals, how does Soundwave perform in comparison?
SW can hold it' s own with the best of what Europe has to offer. And as regards to hospitality the Aussies are second to none.

What made you want to mix country and rock together in a way that’s seen as both tongue-and-cheek and irresistibly catchy?
We admire and are inspired by the idiom, but at the same time country Music does have something slighty over- stylised to it, which tends to invite us to poke gentle fun.

How would you describe your shows to a person who’s yet to catch you live?
The BossHoss draw from a wide Range Of Musical styles to present something unique, the perfect blend of Traditional and modern Zeitgeist - a Hard Hitting and immensely energetic, Rock'n'Roll show.

We have 10 Musicians on stage that play a surprising mixture of Electric and acoustic Instruments - so be prepared for something wild and very unusual!

You gained popularity with Top 40 covers; are there any current acts the band would be interested in covering?
Actually, our priority has been to find a good song. We have in the past, of course, paid tribute to certain artists who have inspired us; Elvis, Hendrix, Beastie Boys for example, but the artist who performed the song was not really the main issue for us. In the last 10 years the focus has been evermore upon playing our own original songs. Taking into consideration our recent love affair with your fair continent, don't be surprised though, if you hear us paying our respects to one of Australia's musical super heroes, like ACDC or INXS, in the not too distant future!
