Map showing Cobungra Station

Many people will recognise Cobungra Station as traditional mountain Hereford breeders but in recent years the herd has evolved to a predominantly black base responding to market demand for Black cattle.

In 2001 owner Mark Suhr commenced a comprehensive full blood wagyu breeding programme, starting with a herd of 70 cows descended from Michifuku bloodlines. Since then Mark has invested substantially in Cobungra’s infrastructure and the development of its full blood wagyu herd, which currently ranks among Australia’s largest and highest quality.

Cobungra Station is located in the foothills of Mount Hotham in Victoria’s High Country. At between 1000m and 1500m above sea level, the altitude and clean mountain air, combined with abundant clean water makes a naturally healthy place to raise cattle. Altitude is well known for aiding healing and promoting greater health, lung capacity and vigour.
