Gold Coast Lapidary Club

Lapidary is the craft of cutting, polishing and engraving stones and includes the collection, preparation, cutting and polishing of precious, semi-precious and other attractive stones for the purpose of display, ornamentation or for jewellery.

Lapidary had it’s origins back in the stone age whem man first began to select stones for tool and weapons, tens of thousands of years ago.

By the Neolithic Age our ancient ancestors had begun to shape and modify the stones for more efficient tools and weapons and to use the stones for adornment and worship.

Lapidary has to be mankinds oldest yet still surviving craft.

Our modern day lapidary hobbyists are the present day custodians of these ancient lapidary skills.
