Karonga School

Karonga School offers educational programs for students with special needs from their early years through to the end of high school. The school provides programs of excellence in special education within a caring and supportive environment. It is part of a network of services for children with special needs provided by the Department of Education.

Karonga staff are professional, highly qualified and experienced special educators. Each teacher and class is supported by a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO). It has strong links with the parents, its P&C, interagencies, and its wider school community.

Students attend Karonga following an offer from the regional placement panel. All students have an intellectual disability, with many having additional disabilities and health care needs. Karonga school provides high quality individualised programs for all students. It has a strong student welfare focus including positive behaviour support, therapy support and community based programs. The individual programs are designed to focus on student achievement in order to promote individual development and success for an independent future. It has a strong focus on personal development and promote high expectations for all students.
